Congratulations to Team Powerbeck Sports for completing the Three Peaks Challenge and helping to raise over £7,000 pounds for Kidney Research. The challenge was to climb the Highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland not extreme enough eh? Well the team needed to do this in under 24 hours without sleep, this included travel time from mountain to mountain. The difficulty of the Three Peaks Challenge shouldn't be underestimated. It is very easy to get lost particularly when mountains need to be climbed in the dark or in poor weather.
Ben Nevis (1344m) Ascent: 1 hour 50 minutes Decent: 60 minutes Team Powerbeck started the challenge at 5pm at the foot of Ben Nevis, with Ian leading the team up Ben Nevis 1344m in record breaking time there wasn't much time for sight seeing! Ian managed to reach the peak of Ben Nevis in an unbelievable 1 hour 50 minutes. The descent was also very challenging trying to keep up any pace with the constant pounding on the knee and ankle joints, but we still managed to get down in 60 minutes. Unfortunately 5 members of the team did not make off Ben Nevis withing the allocated time and dropped out of the event, this underlined how difficult the challenge was going to be. One peak done and nearly lost half of the team. The remainder of the team now had a seven hour drive in front of them which is not ideal for recovery but we had a full range of recovery supplements from Powerbeck to help with muscle fatigue and energy replacement. Scafell Pike (978m) Ascent: 1 Hour 30 Minutes Decent: 60 minutes We were at the foot of Scafell Pike at 4am with sore muscles and joints which we had to get moving again. The time and pain didn't seem to effect Ian though has he continued the record breaking pace, 1 hour 30 mins to climb Scafell Pike and 60 minutes to descend. Just when you thought it would be good to have a hot bath and a muscle massage it was time for another long car journey, 5 hour drive to Snowdon. Snowdon (1085m) Ascent: 60 mins Decent: 60 mins Snowdon was supposed to be the easiest of the three peaks to climb but it didn't turn out that way, the weather had taken a turn for the worse and the body and mind where desperate for sleep. Snowdon is a beautiful mountain with many people visiting the area for the site seeing, but in race mode and wet conditions it was a real test for the team. This didnt stop Ian putting in some more remarkable times with 60 minutes to climb and another 60 minutes for the descent.
